Easy and Delicious Sesame Crusted Tofu Fillets. The tofu is packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Pair your vegan fish with your choice of veggies and grain to make a complete meal.
I love making this recipe because it can be so versatile. You can change out the marinade for one that you love and use the veggies and grains you already have on hand. This recipe makes 2 servings of fillets. However, if you are like me and love leftovers, make a double batch and save the rest for leftovers for later in the week.
TIPS WHEN MAKING YOUR VEGAN “FISH”
MARINATE – The marinate I used for my tofu was a premade teriyaki sauce. I decided to use a premade sauce to save time. However, making your own sauce is highly recommended too. Just make sure to use ingredients that can heat up at high temperatures.
TOFU– It’s recommended that you use extra firm tofu. Using anything else can result in your tofu falling apart.
SCORING– Why score your tofu? Cutting lines in your tofu will make sure the sauce marinates the entire piece of tofu. It will also allow your tofu to cook all the way through the piece of tofu.
MARINATE TIME– I recommend marinating your tofu for at least 30 minutes on each side for a total of one hour. The longer you marinate your tofu the more flavorful it is.
NORI– Adding the nori to the marinade really adds a lot of flavor. Cut the nori into small pieces and add it to the marinade.
You can get super creative when making your bowl. I love this recipe because it’s a great way to use those veggies and grains you already have on hand.

Sesame Crusted Tofu Fillets.
Ingredients
- 1 block Extra Firm Tofu pressed, with the water removed
- 1/2 cup Teriyaki Sauce
- 3 sheets Nori Cut into small pieces
- 1 tsp corn starch
- 2 Tbsp sesame seeds
Garnish
- 2 tsp Nori komi furikake
- 1/4 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp sriracha optional
Bowl
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 1 1/2 cup Sautéed veggies
Instructions
- Cut your pressed tofu in half horizontally into two pieces. Using a knife make vertical lines in the tofu. You can use a chopsticks on each side of the tofu to make sure you dont cut all the way through the tofu.
- Pour your teriyaki sauce in a container with a lid. Add your tofu and nori. Marinate the tofu for 30 minutes on one side. Take the tofu out, flip it, and place the tofu back in the refrigerator for an additional 30 minutes. The longer you marinate it the more flavorful it will be.
- Sprinkle the sesame seeds on a plate. Press one side of the tofu on top of the sesame seeds until they stick. Add your tofu to a non stick pan with a little bit of oil. Sprinkle the corn starch on all sides of the tofu. Adding this will make it extra crispy. Fry on each side for 3-5 minutes or until cooked all the way. You can add the leftover marinade on top of the tofu while frying. If some of the sesame seeds fall off, no worries. We will add more later.
- Garnish your fillet with a sprinkle of nori komi furikake and a drizzle of sesame oil and sriracha . Pair your fillet with your choice of veggies and grain.
